What BooClean is

BooClean is a photo-library cleanup utility for iPhone. It reads your Photos library on your device, groups likely similar photos, lists screenshots and large videos, and helps you decide what to remove. It also presents insights — Clutter Score, Storage Runway and Camera Roll Personality — calculated from your own library.

BooClean operates on your Photos library only. It does not and cannot clean app caches, system files, RAM, or storage belonging to other applications, because iOS does not grant apps that access.

Your licence

Subject to these terms, you get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use BooClean on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, redistribute, sell, rent, sublicense, reverse engineer or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except to the extent that restriction is unenforceable under applicable law.

BooClean requires iOS 18 or later on iPhone. Your use of the app is also subject to Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions.

Your responsibility

Because deletion is permanent once iOS finishes with it, you are responsible for reviewing what you queue before you confirm it, and for keeping your own backups. We strongly recommend an up to date iCloud Photos or computer backup before any large cleanup. BooClean is not a backup service and holds no copy of your media.

Similar-photo grouping is a suggestion produced by on-device analysis. It is not guaranteed to be complete or correct: it may group photos you consider distinct, or miss photos you consider duplicates. The recommended keeper is likewise a suggestion. Always check a set before acting on it.

Keep or Drop

Keep or Drop is a decision and review mechanism inside BooClean for media you are unsure about. You choose which categories a session draws from. Items you catch are kept. It runs as best of three rounds, so an item must be missed twice before anything happens to it, and anything still undecided when a session ends is kept.

An item you do not catch is not deleted. Missing an item twice moves it to a Let Go review queue and nothing more. Each session ends on a review screen listing every let-go item, where any of them can be rescued in one tap, and the queue still has to pass through Final Review and your explicit confirmation before anything is removed.

Deleted media

When you confirm a cleanup, BooClean asks iOS to delete the assets you selected. iOS moves them to Recently Deleted in the Photos app, where they normally remain for 30 days and can be recovered from there.

That behaviour belongs to iOS and iCloud, not to BooClean. Apple may change the retention period, and factors such as iCloud Photos sync, shared libraries, low storage or emptying Recently Deleted yourself can remove items sooner. We cannot guarantee that any deleted item will be recoverable, at any point. Once media has left your library, BooClean has no way to retrieve it.

Shrinking videos

Shrink It makes a new, smaller video in your Photos library by re-encoding an existing one on your device. It does not modify or replace the original, and it does not delete anything on its own.

• The smaller copy is a new asset. It is re-encoded, so it is not identical to the original, and it does not inherit album membership, favourite status or other information attached to the original.
• You decide what happens to the original. If you choose to remove it, it joins the same review queue as any other deletion and you confirm it there, exactly as described above.
• If compression fails, is cancelled, or produces a file that is not actually smaller, BooClean discards its working copy and leaves the original untouched.
• Some formats lose characteristics a re-encode cannot restore — high dynamic range and slow-motion timing in particular. BooClean warns you before compressing such a video.

Estimates

Several figures in BooClean are estimates and are marked as such with a ~: recoverable space, the size of an item where iOS does not expose it, the projected result of a space goal, and the likely size of a compressed video before it is made.

Estimated savings may differ from the final result. A space goal counts only space you have actually recovered, and a compressed video's saving is reported from the real sizes once the copy exists — but neither is a guarantee about how much space any particular cleanup will free.

Free space shown by iOS may also lag behind, because deleted items remain in Recently Deleted for a period before the space returns.

The free experience

Without paying anything, you can:

• scan your photo library and see every result;
• review similar photos, screenshots, camera bursts and large videos;
• set a space goal and see the plan built for it;
• park decisions in Boo Box for as long as you like;
• play a full Keep or Drop session;
• shrink one video, so you can see what compression actually does to your own footage; and
• complete a real cleanup using the introductory allowance: up to 50 items and approximately 500 MB.

That allowance is a one-time lifetime amount for the app on your device, not a monthly refill, and it is used up when either the item count or the size limit is reached. Once it is spent, further cleanups require BooClean Pro. Scanning, reviewing and Keep or Drop keep working regardless.

BooClean Pro

BooClean Pro is an auto-renewing subscription that removes the cleanup limits, allows unlimited video compression, and unlocks the full insight screens. It is offered as:

• a monthly subscription, renewing every month; and
• an annual subscription, renewing every year.

There is no free trial at launch, and there is no weekly plan.

Prices are set per App Store storefront and vary by country and currency. The price that applies to you is the one shown in the app and at the App Store confirmation step before you buy. Apple may adjust prices in line with currency or tax changes, and will notify you as its terms require.

Billing and renewal. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of that period.

Cancelling. Manage or cancel in Settings › your name › Subscriptions on your iPhone. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro remains active until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

Restoring. If you reinstall or move to a new device, tap Restore Purchases in BooClean's Settings, signed in with the Apple Account that made the purchase.

Refunds

Purchases are made from Apple, so refunds are administered by Apple under its terms. We cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases ourselves. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Statutory rights you may have as a consumer in your country are not affected by this section.

Availability and changes

BooClean depends on Apple's frameworks and on permissions you control. Features may change, degrade or be withdrawn because of operating-system updates, platform policy changes, API restrictions or changes to your privacy settings. We may add, alter or remove features between versions, and we may stop distributing or supporting the app. Where a change materially reduces what a paid subscription provides, and it is within our control, we will say so in the release notes.

Acceptable use

Use BooClean on media you own or are entitled to manage, and do not use it to break the law or anyone else's rights. Do not attempt to circumvent the subscription, interfere with the app's operation, or use it in a way that damages another person's data.

Intellectual property

BooClean, the BooClean name and wordmark, the Boo mascot and all of the app's artwork, illustrations, sounds, copy, screens and code are owned by the publisher and protected by copyright and trademark law. Nothing in these terms transfers any of it to you beyond the licence above. You may not use the BooClean name or the Boo character in your own products, marketing or store listings without written permission.

Your photos remain entirely yours. Using BooClean grants us no rights of any kind over your media — which is straightforward, given the app never sends it anywhere.

Disclaimers and liability

BooClean is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that similarity grouping will be accurate, or that size figures marked as estimates will match exactly what iOS reports.

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to BooClean is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or a nominal amount where you paid nothing. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

Apple

BooClean is licensed, not sold, to you. Your licence is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement (the Standard EULA) . BooClean adopts Apple's Standard EULA; where these terms and that EULA conflict, the Standard EULA governs the licence itself.

Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for BooClean. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory non-compliance, or consumer protection claims. In the event of a third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for that claim. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the jurisdiction in which the publisher is established, without displacing mandatory consumer protection rules of the country in which you live. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

We may update these terms as the app changes; the date at the top of this page shows the last revision, and continuing to use BooClean after an update means you accept it.
